History of Surrey
Surrey is a large suburban municipality located in Metro Vancouver with a population of over 460,000. The most recent census shows a growth rate of over 4% per year with roughly 1,000 people moving here each month. Surrey was incorporated in 1879 and has a rich history of people with diverse ethnic backgrounds who have come together to make Surrey one of British Columbia's most unique communities. As the city of Vancouver to the west began to grow with the completion of the Canadian Pacific Railroad, Surrey became a main supplier of lumber and produce.
Surrey is now one of the fastest growing major cities in Canada. In September 1993, Surrey officially became a city and over the past few years has undergone tremendous change and growth and the overall quality of life has risen to impressive heights.
