Historic Cloverdale Virtual Walking Tour

The Cloverdale area was first surveyed in 1859. In 1874, Joseph Shannon purchased 640 acres of crown property. The Clover Valley Road was constructed to the Nicomekl River, where sternwheelers delivered provisions and exported farm produce. Land was donated to build the Starr Hotel, which was soon joined by a blacksmith shop and livery stable.

In 1913, the use of motorcars necessitated the construction of a bridge over the Nicomekl River. Cloverdale soon had several garages and fuel distribution services to support the growing road traffic. The second Municipal Hall was built in Cloverdale in 1912 and civic administration moved into the town centre.

In 1954 the Valley Curling Club and Shannon Hall were opened and in 1958 the Surrey Museum moved into the re-located 1881 Town Hall on the corner of the Fairgrounds.

Cloverdale Virtual Walking Tour provides 14 points of interest including the 1881 Town Hall, BC Telephone Office, and the Municipal Hall showcasing the history and heritage of the area.  Click here to begin your tour.
